ALBANY – Sites in Dutchess, Ulster and Columbia counties have been recommended to the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Haxtun-Tower House in Hopewell Junction is a Greek Revival home that was built around 1850 for farmer William Haxtun and expanded around 1870 for Albert Tower, an executive in the region’s iron ore industry.
Alton B. Parker Estate in Esopus, the 1860 estate known as Rosemount,
is nationally significant for its association with Alton B. Parker, chief
judge of the New York State Court of Appeals and Democratic Party candidate
in the 1904 presidential election, which was won by Theodore Roosevelt.
Ancram Hamlet Historic District in Ancram is comprised of buildings, sites and landscapes that retain much of their rural crossroads character and sense of place, reflecting the district’s development during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Adding those properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places “can help them continue to be part of the fabric of their communities for years to come,” said state Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey.
