WHITE PLAINS – Former Westchester County Community College head basketball coach Tyrone Mushatt, 43, of the Bronx, was indicted and arraigned on Thursday on an 18-count indictment alleging that he used forged and falsified transcripts to help players earn spots in National Collegiate Athletic Association teams at four-year schools.
Mushatt is charged with 17 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument as felonies and one count of misdemeanor conspiracy.
The indictment alleges that from 2012 through 2014, while leading the
WCC men’s basketball program, Mushatt possessed falsified and forged
official transcripts to make it appear that certain players took courses
and received grades that they did not.  Mushatt forwarded the falsified
transcripts to NCAA four-year schools including St. John’s University,
Florida A & M University, Concordia College, Quinnipiac University,
and Wilmington University, to help the players to gain entry into their
basketball programs.
In many instances, the players’ real transcripts did not reflect sufficient credits, subject matter proficiency, and grades to have allowed them to transfer to the four-year schools to which they had applied.
