Tourist spending in Dutchess County is up

POUGHKEEPSIE – A newly released state report shows that visitor spending in Dutchess County rose last year by some $20 million over 2014.  That generated $37.6 million in local tax revenue and supported close to 10,000 jobs.
In 1984 when the county tourism office was founded, visitor spending
was $94 million generating $950,000 in sales tax.
County Tourism Director Mary Kay Vrba said Dutchess has a wide variety of attractions that draw visitors in.
The national sites continue to be a big draw, Vrba said. DIA: Beacon has had some record attendance this year there are more activities including the marathon in June, Dragon Boat Races on the Hudson River Bike New York and Zip Cars at train stations and municipal lots, she noted.
County Executive Marcus Molinaro said tourism as an industry, employer and economic engine continues to grow.
