ALBANY – Ulster County had the largest percentage of job growth
in the entire state during the 12-month period ending in June.

The state Labor Department announced the statistics Thursday. The announcement
came on the same day as County Executive Michael Hein announced the launch
of a new county effort to attract more metro New York entrepreneurs and
tech businesses to the county. Several have already set up shop in Ulster.
Ulster tied with New York City in terms of new jobs, both with 2.7 percent
growth.

The Orange-Rockland-Westchester metro area saw 2.5 percent growth while
the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Region had an increase of 2.1 percent.

Sullivan County added one percent more jobs while Columbia County broke
even and Greene County lost 1.9 percent of its jobs.

Jobs rose 2.4 percent region-wide with a gain of 18,700 jobs, to 803,900.

Jobs were added in education and health services; professional and business
services; leisure and hospitality; trade, transportation and utilities;
natural resources, mining and construction; and other services.

Job losses were seen in financial services. The government sector added
1,200 over the period.
