Newburgh man arrested on gun charge after speeding through city

NEWBURGH – A Newburgh man was arrested early Wednesday morning
after he was clocked doing 70 miles per on Fullerton Avenue in the city
and slammed into a utility pole at the intersection of Gidney Avenue.

The incident occurred minutes after 1 a.m.
When the suspect, identified as Tariq McCoy, 35, fled from the car, officers
gave chase and apprehended him. The vehicle was impounded and a 9 mm pistol
loaded with 15 rounds was discovered along with several bags of PCP.

McCoy was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor
criminal possession of drugs, resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed
operation of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle with a suspended
registration.

He had a suspended license for failing to pay child support and is a two-time
convicted felon.
