POUGHKEEPSIE – After a two-month delay for further review, the Dutchess County Industrial Development Agency approved financial incentives to Empire Hotel Development on Tuesday so the company can build a 93-room Hyatt hotel in the Spackenkill area of the Town of Poughkeepsie.
The incentives include sales tax and mortgage recording tax exemptions.
The IDA delayed final approval this spring because retail projects may not receive incentives. There is, however, an exclusion for hospitality applicants if it can be proven that they would have a direct impact on tourism in the area.
The hotel will be built on an 8.4-acre parcel of land.
