MARBLETOWN – The Town of Marbletown may have a new law on the books by later this week recommending that restaurant servers not automatically hand out plastic straws when serving cold beverages.
The town’s Environmental Conservation Commission recommended the change to reduce the use of those single-use straws, said commission member Iris Marie Bloom.
“It would save all of these straws from going to landfills. It would save the cost of the manufacture and transport of all those straws, it would protect clean water, of course and it would save money for businesses in town who do not have to give away so many straws,” Bloom said.
If the law is adopted, participation by eateries would be voluntary.
