KINGSTON – Police in Kingston arrested two city residents on burglary charges after they were caught inside a vacant house that had been boarded up by the city’s building department.
While on his way home from work during the early morning hours of July 14, a Kingston police officer spotted a suspicious vehicle parked near the house. He contacted police headquarters and advised them of what he saw.  A while later, he observed lights and noises coming from inside the house.
Officers responded to the scene and found Tonya Carney, 42, and Joseph Drake, 39, inside along with copper they had harvested from the building.  They were both charged with burglary, criminal mischief, possession of burglar’s tools and criminal possession of stolen property.  Both are in the Ulster County Jail.  Bail was set at $2,500 for Carney and $25,000 for Drake.
