MAHOPAC – A 39-year-old Mahopac man died in a fire in the house
he shared with his brother at 10 Foxey Lane in Mahopac early Sunday.

Carmel Town Police said the victim, Richard Delaney, Jr., was found unconscious
on the floor in a rear bedroom of the one-story ranch-style residence
around 4 a.m.
He was pronounced dead about a half-hour after being pulled from the
burning structure.

Authorities said the fire apparently started in the kitchen with Delaney
attempting to extinguish the flames. He was overcome by heat and smoke.
The official cause of death is pending results of an autopsy.

The victim’s brother called 911 to report the fire, which was responded
to by the Mahopac Falls Fire Department.

No injuries were reported to firefighters. Assisting at the scene were
the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Putnam Battalion Coordinator
7 Lou Luongo.
