GOSHEN – The Scotchtown Avenue Bridge is fully open to the public for th first time since June of 2007 when it was reduced to single lane alternating traffic due to structural deficiencies.

State, county and local officials were on hand for a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Friday.

“The completion of the Scotchtown Avenue Bridge is an important part of my continuing initiative to rebuild and upgrade Orange County’s infrastructure,” County Executive Steven Neuhaus said. “I’m glad that the Scotchtown Avenue Bridge has been revitalized in a safe and fiscally responsible manner. We know how important this bridge is to county residents and we are excited to see it fully opened again. County travelers will benefit from this significant infrastructure improvement and that is gratifying to all of us.”
The Scotchtown Avenue Bridge extends over the Wallkill River and is an important span for commuters traveling between the Town of Wallkill into Hamptonburgh/Goshen. The 330-foot long bridge serves approximately 4,800 vehicles per day. The repair work was funded by the following sources: Eighty percent federal, 15 percent state, and five percent county.
