ALBANY – Five school districts in Westchester County as well as one each in Ulster and Columbia counties, will receive state Smart Schools funding to help close the “digital divide” and increase access to technology and high-speed broadband.  The funding will help districts invest in technology such as computer servers, interactive whiteboards, tablets, desktop and laptop computers, and high-speed broadband and wireless connectivity.
In Westchester County, the following schools will receive funding:

Bedford CSD – $620,202
Hastings-on-Hudson – $449,874
Katonah-Lewisboro UFSD – $707,629
Pleasantville UFSD – $432,564
Yorktown CSD – $700,025

In Ulster County, the Wallkill Central School District will receive $2.6 million and in Columbia County, the Kinderhook Central School District will receive $689,678.
The funding was approved as part of the $2 billion Smart Schools Bond Act aimed at reimagining teaching and learning for the 21st century.
The bond act, proposed by the governor, was approved by voters in 2014. It supports investment in education technology that will equip students with the skills they need to thrive and succeed in the global economy.
