NEW PALTZ – A large brush fire at Minnewaska State Park this weekend kept firefighters busy. The park was closed as a result of the fire.
The extreme heat and lack of rain in recent weeks added to firefighting
difficulties.
The Ulser County Shriff’s Office advised on Monday to avoid Route 44/55
in the Minnewaska Park area due to the fire.
The road is closed from Lower Granite Rd in Town of Rochester to Route
299 in the Town of Gardiner.
Fire departments from Orange County assisted those from Ulster in the firefighting
operations. By Sunday afternoon, officials said the fire was mostly
contained.
