On February 1, 1970, the man’s body was found down an embankment off Plate Clove Road in West Saugerties. He had suffered several gunshot wounds to the back of his head and investigators believe he was most likely killed at another location and dumped off at Platte Clove Road.
To this day, police do not know the man’s identity and the case remains open as a cold case homicide.
The victim was described as a white man, about 35 to 45 years old, five feet, three inches tall, weighing 155 pounds, with dark brown, wavy hair.  When found he was fully clothed wearing a three-quarter length tan/brown reversible raincoat, a green business suit, white dress shirt, black silk tie with the “Playboy” label, black leather shoes, gray socks and black rubber overshoes.  He was wearing pajamas under the suit and was wearing an imitation ruby ring with a gold setting and an Omega gold wrist watch.
