MONROE – The cost of repairing the iconic Mill Pond Dam in the Village of Monroe, damaged by Hurricane Lee and Tropical Storm Irene, will be covered by federal funds obtained by Orange County.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus came to the dam on Wednesday to announce the funding.
“We have successfully been able to secure $475,000, which would cover the cost of the repair, through federal Housing and Urban Development, in what is called the Disaster Assistance funding, the first time Orange County received money in that particular account,” Neuhaus said.
Mayor James Purcell conducted an online poll months ago asking village residents if they would like to repair the dam or remove it and the majority wanted it repaired.
