FALLSBURG – The Town of Fallsburg has state approval to take over the former Woodbourne Prison Annex.
When the deal has been completed this fall, Town Supervisor Steven Vegliante would like the town board to consider a number of uses for the facility.
“We would like at some point to build a municipal center there,” Vegliante said.  “It is going to take a lot of planning and we will have to find some funding for that, grant funding; the idea we would really like to consolidate at some point town functions there and build a countywide shelter as well. We’re just in the beginning stages of it.”
The town hopes to close on the property later this year.
Several years ago, the unused facility was briefly considered as possible
space for a new Sullivan County Jail. That never gained any traction.
