POUGHKEEPSIE – If you compare the rebirth of the City of Pittsburgh to the transformation of the City of Middletown, you will see the Orange County city is on the right track. That assessment comes from Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano, who is following the advice of former Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy.
Murphy addressed a conference of Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday on how to make tough impactful decisions to rejuvenate cities.
The Middletown mayor embraced Murphy’s philosophy.
“You will see that we are on the right page very clearly regarding the role that we play, incentivizing the public sector, that it’s not just all about the city making the investment; partnering with others, the sanitation issue, the cleanliness and security,” DeStefano said.
Pattern for Progress President Jonathan Drapkin said Hudson Valley leaders need to be risk takers if they want to transform their communities.
