ALBANY – The 12-month period ended in May brought the highest May job count on record in the Hudson Valley dating back to 1990. The state labor department reported on Thursday that employment increased by 11,200, or 1.4 percent, to 790,000.
Jobs rose the most in the region in Ulster County at 1.7 percent. New jobs increased 1.5 percent in both the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area.
They fell by 2.0 percent in Greene County, by 0.6 percent in Columbia County and by 0.5 percent in Sullivan County.
Region-wide, jobs were added in educational and health services; natural resources, mining and construction; trade, transportation and utilities; professional and business services; and other services.
Job losses were mostly centered in information; leisure and hospitality; and financial activities. The government sector added 1,500 jobs over the period.
