CARMEL – A bomb scare called in to the Carmel High School main office
around 11:40 a.m. Friday resulted in the evacuation of the 250 students,
faculty and staff.

Final exams and Regents exams were interrupted as a result.

Two bomb-sniffing dogs from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and
three K-9s from the MTA Police swept the main school building, two out-buildings
and parking areas adjacent to the school. No explosives or suspicious
objects were found.

An all-clear was given at about 1:30 p.m. and students were allowed back
into the classrooms to resume the scheduled testing.

The school district sent an email alert to parents of the students apprising
them of the threat and resulting evacuation.

Sheriff’s investigators are working with school officials to identify
the person who made the call. Anyone with information is asked to call
845-225-4300. All calls will be kept confidential.
