Pine Bush man charged in fatal hit-and-run accident

NEW WINDSOR – A 33-year-old Pine Bush man has been charged with
felony vehicular manslaughter in connection with a hit-and-run accident
in New Windsor in which a pedestrian was struck and killed.

Michael Rule was later stopped in his vehicle and charged with vehicular
manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving while
intoxicated.

Town Police responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck on Temple
Hill Road near the New Windsor Cantonment and Purple Heart Museum at around
6:21 p.m. They found the victim, identified as Luis DeJesus, 31, of New
Windsor, unconscious on the side of the road.

Witnesses told police that DeJesus was walking northbound on the shoulder
of the road when the vehicle, also going north, left the road and struck
Rule without stopping.

The vehicle description was broadcast to local police and Town of Newburgh
officers spotted and pulled the car over.

Rule was arraigned and released after posting $10,000 bail.
