MONTICELLO – If everything goes according to plan, Sullivan County
is just over two months away from awarding construction bids for a long
overdue new jail.

During a county legislature Public Works Committee meeting on Thursday,
County Manager Josh Potosek said they expect to advertise the bids next
week, with bids due back in July.

“We intend to have the bids advertised by June 14 with the bids
publicly issued on June 17,” Potosek said. “We intend to have
a non-mandatory pre-bid conference on June 30, on or about June 30. Bids
would be due to the county on July 21.”

If LaBella Associates, the firm overseeing the design and construction,
finds everything in order, bids could be awarded at the August 18 monthly
legislative session.

Last month, legislators unanimously approved $95 in bonding to pay for
the new jail.
