ALBANY – Both houses of the state legislature approved legislation that would allow veterans to buy back up to three years of credit for service toward their retirement.
Republican Senator William Larkin of Orange County sponsored the measure in his house and Democrat Amy Paulin of Westchester County carried it in the Assembly.
Larkin said gaining approval was a joint effort.
“We, not me, not Amy, but we, the members of the Senate and Assembly collectively said it was time to make sure that our veterans are taken care of and their rights protected and that is exactly what we did. That bill now covers them up to three years of service they can buy back,” the senator said.
The measure now goes to the governor for his consideration.
