NEWBURGH – A little over a week since John Aber resigned as Newburgh
city comptroller after his arrest on embezzlement charges, the city has
begun a search for a new chief money person.
The job would be a full time, exempt class appointment with an “excellent
benefit package.” It would pay between $104,138 and $116,076.
The listing says the successful candidate will be responsible for the
development of all financial policies subject to approval of the city
manager and city council.
If the person is designated as director of finance by the city manager,
the comptroller would also be responsible for the supervision of the city’s
assessor, collector, parking violations and information technology departments.
Minimum qualifications for applicants include a certified public accountant’s
license and one year of municipal government or public sector finance
experience, or; a master’s degree in finance, accounting, business
administration, public administration, economics or closely related field
and two years of municipal government or public sector finance experience
in a supervisory capacity, or; a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting,
business administration, public administration or economics of closely
related field and four years of municipal government or public sector
finance experience in a supervisory capacity, or; an equivalent combination
of training and experience as defined by the limits of the other three
qualifications.
The successful candidate would have to move into the City of Newburgh
within 90 days of appointment.
The deadline to submit a resume to the city Civil Service office is June
22.
