NEW WINDSOR – Due to the reducing water levels at Brown’s Pond, the City of Newburgh’s back-up water supply, there will be no boating or fishing this season. That water source is being used since the main water supply – Washington Lake – was taken off-line because of contamination by dangerous chemicals.
The drawdown at Brown’s Pond is reducing the levels dangerously low leading the city to make plans to tap the New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s reservoir.
In addition to the Brown’s Pond boating and fishing ban, the city has implemented a catch-and-release fishing policy at Masterson Lake Park because of the risk associated with the PFOS contaminants in the Newburgh watershed.
Fishing will be permitted only from the shore daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a state fishing license is required.
