Chase, with Hill and the grateful woman
he helped rescue

CARMEL – Putnam County Sheriff’s K-9 “Chase” had just concluded his training when the 18-month-old Bloodhound was pressed into action.
Chase and his handler, Criminal Investigator Randel Hill, along with members of the State Police, responded to a 911 report last week of a female hiker lost in a wooded area of the Michael Ciaiola Conservation area in the Town of Patterson.
The 59-yaer-old hiker called 911 on her cell phone after realizing she was lost and Chase and his handler located the woman’s vehicle on State Coach Road. The dog picked up her scent from the car and the track began.  Despite rain, darkness and a bear, the woman was located a more than one-mile track through the woods.
The woman was brought out unharmed.
