NEW WINDSOR – High winds on the Hudson River made kayaking for 28 boaters rather dangerous Sunday evening, but in the end, they were all able to return to shore safely.
Police received a 911 call shortly after 6 p.m. of several kayakers appearing to be in distress on the Hudson between Bannerman’s Island and Plum Point in New Windsor.
A total of 32 kayaks were on the river with 13 able to return to shore, three to Plum Point and 10 to Cornwall Landing.
With the assistance of launched local fire department boats, the remaining kayaks were able to reach shore with no injuries to the boaters.
