SAUGERTIES – A Village of Saugerties man was stabbed to death early Thursday morning and his alleged killer was taken into custody hours later on an Amtrak train in Washington, DC.
Rameen Perry, 40, was found in the residence at 8A Malden Avenue in the
Village of Saugerties at around 3:23 a.m.  He had sustained several
stab wounds and died shortly after arrival to the Health Alliance Hospital
Broadway Campus in Kingston.
The suspect, Earl Edwards, 26, of old Stage Road in Saugerties, fled before police arrived.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m., he was located on a passenger train in Washington and taken into custody by plain clothes members of Amtrak Police.
Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said the two men knew each other.
“We did develop information that there was an ongoing issue between the two of them and that is what precipitated the event that led to Mr. Edwards lashing out so violently against Mr. Perry,” the chief said.
Saugerties Police were assisted by State Police, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Kingston and Poughkeepsie city police departments and investigators from the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
