Man charged with murder in shooting death of a bicyclist in Mt. Vernon

WHITE PLAINS – A New York City man has been charged with murder
in the shooting death of a man as he rode a bicycle in Mount Vernon.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on April 17, Bobby Jackson, 34, of New York, spotted
Charles Smith riding a bike in Mount Vernon.

It is alleged that Jackson started jogging after Smith and two blocks
later, started shooting at him; one round hit Smith in the back, causing
severe internal injuries. Smith fell to the concrete pavement striking
his head. He was dead within minutes.

Jackson was arraigned on charges of murder, criminal possession of a weapon,
reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence,
He is being held without bail in the Westchester County Jail. If convicted,
he faces 15 to 25 years in state prison.
