POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County held its 33rd annual DWI Victims Memorial Ceremony in Poughkeepsie on Thursday to honor the memories of county victims of DWI crashes. The event was held with the Dutchess County Chapter of Remove Intoxicated Drivers (RID).
Molinaro said remembrances like this one “assure we both never forget those who’ve been taken from us and continue to send the message that driving while intoxicated is not a good choice – it’s a crime.”
This year’s Jo Johnson Memorial Scholarship, named for Josephine
Johnson, who founded the Dutchess County Chapter of RID in 1981, was presented
to Elisabeth Clemmons of Pawling High School.
As the unofficial start of the summer, this weekend will see more vehicles
on the road and that translates to 13 percent more fatalities than on
a non-holiday weekend.
Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William Johnson said police will use a number of coordinated approaches including saturated patrols and roving sobriety checkpoints to identify and arrest impaired drivers.
