NEW WINDSOR – Officials at Stewart Airport expect passenger numbers to increase from June 16 on as Allegiant Air starts its twice weekly flights to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It currently operates two roundtrips per week to Tampa-St. Pete, Florida.
In the first four months of the year, the number of passengers totaled 85,251. That compared with 87,046 travelers during the same period last year. Pre-flight bookings for the new Allegiant flights are running at 95 percent of capacity, Stewart Business Development Director Michael Torelli told the Stewart Airport Commission on Tuesday.
During the first three months of the year, cargo tonnage carried through Stewart totaled 3,821 tons compared with 3,771 tons last year. While January and February figures beat ou8t the same months in 2015, March figures slipped. Torelli said that could be an effect of the continued slow economic recovery.
