New jobs continue to climb in region

ALBANY – The number of new jobs in the Hudson Valley in the 12 months ending in April increased by 17,600 or 2.3 percent, to 785,900.
The Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area had the greatest growth at
2.5 percent. Ulster County came in right behind those counties at 2.4
percent more jobs.
The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division saw 1.9 percent more jobs.
Columbia County ranked tops in the state for job increases in small counties with 1.9 percent more jobs. Sullivan County has no growth and Greene County lost 2.1 percent of its jobs.
Jobs were added in education and health services; natural resources, mining and construction; other services; trade, transportation and utilities; and professional and business services. Job losses were mostly centered in leisure and hospitality. The government sector added 1,500 jobs over the period.
