GOSHEN – Two previously offered voluntary separation agreement for eligible Orange County employees reduced the county workforce by over 150 people and saved the county money so county legislators are exploring the possibility of offering it a third time.
Discussion began Monday in the Personnel and Compensation Committee.
Workers who have put in enough time could take a buyout, said Chairman
John Vero.
“I think that is something that could induce a few long-term county
workers to take advantage of that and save the county some money,”
Vero said. “It worked twice before; I think it could work again.”
Under the plan, employees with 10 to 20 years on the job would receive a $10,000 incentive to retire while those with 21 to 30 years would receive $12,500 and those who have over 30 years of service would receive $15,000.
