HOPEWELL JUNCTION – A replica of the switching tower on the old Hopewell Junction rail line has been completed and it is across the Dutchess Rail Trail from the Hopewell Depot that was restored and opened in 2013 as a museum to look back on the history of the railroad.
The switching tower, just as the Hopewell Depot reconstruction, was built by Hopewell Depot Restoration Corporation, headed by its President, Joseph Sullivan.
“We built it really for two reasons: one, to enhance the historic value of our little depot and the area around it and also to provide restrooms for our depot,” Sullivan said.
Those restrooms with flushable compost toilets will also be available to users of the rail trail. They cost $100,000 and were fully funded.
