KINGSTON – Mayor Steven Noble can often be seen peddling to work
at City Hall and now he, and everyone else who has business to take care
of at the 420 Broadway address will have a secure place to lock up their
bikes while there. That goes for city employees, too.

As part of the city’s “Bike to-Work Week,” the city
has installed a bike rack at City Hall.

“The City of Kingston is situated in the ideal location for residents
and visitors seeking an active lifestyle,” said Noble. “While
I try to walk and bike whenever possible, we all need a little motivation
now and then. My competitive side is coming out and I’m hoping staff
within the City of Kingston will join me during the week so we can have
a chance to win this.”

A friendly community contest, led by Bike-Friendly Kingston, challenges
individuals and groups to track their cumulative bicycling mileage over
the week for a chance to win prizes, in addition to bragging rights.

Last year’s winning team was comprised of six employees of the New
York City DEP, who logged a total of 30 trips, collectively riding 217
miles.
The new bike rack was paid for by a Plan4Health grant secured by the New
York Metro Chapter of the American Planning Association and Cornell Cooperative
Extension of Ulster County for the Live Well Kingston Coalition.
