MIDDLETOWN – Several police agencies have drop boxes in their facilities for persons to drop off old and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal.
In Middletown, Mayor Joseph DeStefano said Chief Ramon Bethencourt is developing a plan to install a similar device in that city’s police station on James Street.
“It’s tough to keep Oxycodone in your home for a year or even several months or outdated drugs before the county has the pickup, so the chief is proposing to do, there is some lockbox-type of equipment that can be used and it would be in the police station lobby,” DeStefano said.
Just this past week, US Senator Charles Schumer urged pharmacies to place drug drop-boxes in the Hudson Valley for expired or unwanted prescriptions.
