WHITE PLAINS – A Long Island University student from Warwick is charged in federal court with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. If convicted, each charge carries from 15 to 30 years in prison.
Robert Garneau, 21, who was arrested Thursday morning, allegedly communicated online with three underage male victims, convincing them to take and send him sexually-explicit photographs of themselves.
Authorities said there may be more victims of this alleged conduct. If you have any information to report, you are asked to contact Homeland Security Investigations on their toll-free tip line at 1-866-HHS-2-ICE or by completing their online tip form. Both are staffed around the clock by investigators.
“Robert Garneau’s alleged crimes are the nightmare of every modern parent,” said US Attorney Preet Bharara. “Using every day social media websites, Garneau allegedly exploited minors for his own sexual gratification. We will continue to work with our partners at Homeland Security Investigations to vigorously investigate and prosecute defendants who sexually exploit children.”
