Thruway Authority announces grants to riverfront communities

ALBANY – The Thruway Authority announced $1.5 million in state grants to seven municipalities in Rockland and Westchester counties to support riverfront restoration and revitalization projects near the new Tappan Zee Bridge.
The grants will fund recreational, cultural and infrastructure projects in villages along the Hudson River.
The Thruway Authority partnered with the state Department of State, Riverkeeper and Scenic Hudson, as part of its environmental commitments for construction of the new bridge.
The grant recipients are:

The Village of Tarrytown: $300,000 to improve Patriots Park, including new playground equipment, furnishings, safety surfacing and brook stabilization.
The Village of Piermont: $250,000 to raise and repave Ferry Road to prevent future storm damage.
The Village of Sleepy Hollow: $246,000 to construct the Hudson River Plaza waterfront park.
The Village of Nyack: $195,000 to construct a pedestrian bridge over the inlet separating Memorial Park along the Hudson River from the village’s public boat launch and marina.
The Village of Irvington: $187,000 to construct streetscape improvements to the Theater District.
The Village of South Nyack: $162,200 to improve Franklin Street Park, including tennis court renovations and a shade canapé for the children’s playground.
The Village of Upper Nyack: $158,710 to construct a new sidewalk along North Broadway.
