GOSHEN – The names of two police officers will be added to the Orange County Police Memorial walls in front of the county courthouse during a May 6 ceremony.
The Fraternal Order of Police will add the name of Sergeant Eric Meier of the Town of Crawford Police.  Meier, 51, a 25-year veteran of the department, died on September 17, 2015 while conducting a narcotics investigation. He was the PBA president at the time of his death and a long-time member of the Pine Bush School Board.
Police Officer Ronald Becker of Monroe, who was 54 at the time of his death, was a 20-year veteran of the New York City Police Department. He was a first responder to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, performing duties related to the search and recovery efforts in the days and months following the attack and on August 19, 2012 succumbed to an illness related to those duties.
“Law enforcement officers put their safety and, indeed, their lives on the line every day, all in the interest of keeping the rest of us safe,” said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler. “We should honor the brave men and women who put on a uniform for our benefit, while they are alive, and certainly after they have paid the ultimate price in the performance of their duty.”
