POUGHKEEPSIE – Town of Poughkeepsie Supervisor Todd Tancredi has been named Dutchess County Office for the Aging director. He will assume the post in mid-May and once confirmed by the county legislature at its June meeting, he will be named permanent director.
At that point, he would have to step down from the Poughkeepsie town supervisor’s job.
As director, Tancredi will oversee the Office for the Aging and its mission of planning, coordinating and providing a number of community based services to the elderly and persons who require assistance in the long-term care system, in an effort to promote independence, dignity and quality of life.
The county’s senior citizen population has grown 30 percent from 2000 to 2010 and today one in five Dutchess residents are seniors.
“Our county’s senior citizens have unique needs and as the senior population continues to grow, it is important we continue to improve and enhance the services offered to them and their families,” Tancredi said.
