GOSHEN – Orange County
District Attorney David Hoovler has assembled an Orange County Sexual
Assault Prevention and Awareness Team in the latest component of his prevention
message, “It’s On Us.” That’s the White House
effort designed to change the way people think about sexual assault, and
to provide people with tools that will help them to recognize sexual assault
before it happens and to intervene to stop it.
Hoovler said they will develop messages targeted at different segments
of the county’s communities including colleges, schools and businesses.
“It’s time to change the narrative about sexual assault in this country and in this county and being the first designated ‘It’s On Us’ county in America, we took that step. Now we believe that creating the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Team that meets quarterly with a broad-based coalition of people, this is going to help us create more awareness, thus greater prevention and more community involvement in the prevention of crime,” he said.
Hoovler said people need to be able to recognize the signs of impending sexual assaults before they happen “and be able to intervene on behalf of friends, loved ones, and strangers in order to stop it.”
