Hilgersom: Not a good fit

LOCH SHELDRAKE – SUNY Sullivan President Dr. Karin Hilgersom has
submitted her resignation effective May 31.

Hilgersom submitted a letter of resignation to the board of trustees in
executive session today (April 21).

She told the board that while she enjoyed working with everyone at the
college, Sullivan County has not proven to be a good fit for her family.

Hilgersom had previously applied for the presidency of four community
colleges. The most recent one to make a decision, Illinois Central College
in East Peoria, Monday selected one of the other finalists, Dr. Sheila
Quirk Bailey. Sue Portscheller, retiring board chairwoman, said Quirk-Bailey
“was the best candidate to lead Illinois Central College forward.”

Hilgersom was also a finalist at Spokane Community College in Washington,
Phoenix College in Arizona, and Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno,
Nevada.

The Phoenix College selection was put on hold pending the arrival of a
new president of the parent institution and another candidate was selected
for the Spokane school.

Selection at Truckee Meadows will not take place for a few weeks.
