Ulster County tops region for new jobs

ALBANY – Ulster County, with a 3.8 percent growth in jobs during
the 12 months ending in March, ranked as the number one metropolitan region
in the state for job growth.

The state labor department reported Thursday that the Orange-Rockland-Westchester
Metro Area had a 2.6 percent job growth during the same period while jobs
in the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division rose by 1.9 percent.

Greene County had a 3.0 percent rate of job growth, while Columbia County
jobs increased by 1.9 percent.
Only Sullivan County lost jobs in the Hudson Valley/Catskills with 0.6
percent fewer jobs.

For the entire region, jobs grew by 2.5 percent, to 773,600.

Jobs were added in natural resources, mining and construction, educational
and health services; other services; professional and business services;
and trade, transportation and utilities. Job losses were centered in leisure
and hospitality; and manufacturing. The government sector added 1,300
jobs over the period.
