ALBANY – The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct has determined that Alan Simon, a justice of the Spring Valley Village Court and the Ramapo Town Court, should be removed from office.
The commission found that Judge Simon engaged in a pattern of bullying and otherwise abusive conduct.
Simon has 30 days to either accept the ruling or ask the State Court of Appeals to review it, said commission Administrator Robert Tembeckjian.
“If he accepts it, then the court will issue an order removing him from office. If he appeals it, the court will consider whether to suspend him while they review the matter,” Tembeckjian said. “If the court reviews the matter at the judge’s request, then both the judge and the commission will have the opportunity to present arguments to the court on why the removal should or shouldn’t be accepted.”
The appeals process could take some six months.
Simon served as Spring Valley village justice since 2005 and as Ramapo town justice since 2011.
