GOSHEN – A man, who is already serving a sentence of 4 ½ to nine years in state prison for operating an identity-theft scheme in Westchester County, will now serve a total of 10 to 20 years in prison following his sentencing in Orange County Court.
Tyrone “Reece” Lee, 29, was sentenced as the ringleader of another identity-theft ring that stole over $457,000 from customers from a Wachovia Bank branch, now Wells Fargo, in the Town of Newburgh. He had been convicted in February of all 15 counts including grand larceny and identity theft.
Lee had recruited in girlfriend, Nadia Figueroa, to obtain a position as
a bank teller at that branch and then directed her on how and what customer
data to steal. She testified that at Lee’s direction, during her
seven weeks of employment, she accessed personal identification of over
200 Wachovia bank account holders without conducting any financial transactions
regarding those accounts. She gave that information to Lee, who recruited
other co-conspirators to withdraw money from those accounts. Among the
123 difference bank branches whose customers were victims of identity
theft, were those in Oceanside, the Bronx, Yonkers, East Haven, CT, Westfield,
NJ and Riverview, FL.
