KINGSTON – The Ulster County Charter calls for a study every two years into the salaries of top elected county officials and this is one of those years.
The Periodic Compensation Review Committee must deliver its report by September 30, but County Legislator Craig Lopez would like to move the date up to June 30.
“The problem that I have with it is it doesn’t leave an ample amount of time, my opinion and that of some of my colleagues, for the public to weigh in and for a full up or down vote of the legislature on salary increases prior to a general election,” Lopez said.
Moving the report date up would give more time for public discussion and public hearings before Election Day, Lopez said.
