KINGSTON – The merger of Kingston’s Health Alliance Hospitals into Westchester Medical Center Health Network is the latest example of the changing healthcare field.
Kevin Dahill, president of the Northern Metropolitan Hospitals Association, said while we are seeing mergers across the region, the health care stays within the area.
“Healthcare is still local in the eyes of the community. If you talk to the person on the street, to them, they don’t understand what this is all about, so healthcare is still local,” Dahill said. “It’s going to be a challenged to these large systems, who are making these acquisitions to try to maintain a balance here so that the local community feels like they have a local institution that they can rely on.”
Two years ago, Westchester Med took over the former Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. More recently it struck a partnership arrangement with the Bon Secours hospitals, and just within the last week, announced the merger with Health Alliance.
