Colorful Rabbi Korer
said this will be an annual event

CARMEL – It was not your usual Purim festival for the Jewish community of Putnam County on Thursday night. The holiday to commemorate the saving of the Jewish people from the leaders of the Persian Empire is often celebrated in part with children dressing up in costumes.
Chabad of Putnam celebrated the holiday in a unique fashion with a Mexican theme right down to serving guacamole.
Rabbi Avi Korer, Chabad’s leader, was decked out in a sombrero. He had never heard of a Mexican Purim festival, but “due to the wonderful response from people of all ages, I can assure you this will become an annual event.”
The attendees were treated to the reading of the Megillah, which tells the story of the holiday, down to tacos, fajitas and other Mexican favorites.
