POUGHKEEPSIE – Now that the Dutchess County Legislature approved bonding up to $192 million to build the proposed Justice and Transition Center, a replacement for the ancient county jail, planning for the project will move forward.
Legislature Chairman Dale Borchert said the county is in a project definition phase now.
“We have hired consultants to define what that project should look like and give us an idea what the bonding should cost and we can start on having our crew look at the RFPs – we had a request for proposals go out – we can look at those and see what the actual cost will be,” Borchert said.
The new facility will be more than just a place for incarceration. It will include facilities for rehabilitation and other inmate services geared to assimilating inmates back into society and reduce recidivism.
