POUGHKEEPSIE – One of the factors in building the new almost $500 million Vassar Brothers Medical Center facilities is the need to have the City of Poughkeepsie abandon a section of a street.
The common council Monday night approved the abandonment of a very short piece of Livingston Street between Lincoln Avenue and Fox Street.
The project is within Alderman Lee Klein’s ward and he told fellow council members the largest construction project in the city’s history will produce a multitude of benefits.
“If one believes that this community should have a world class hospital, this will be it and the potential for an influx of people, jobs, economy, revenue, and the good will of having such a facility in our midst brings to a community like ours, it is invaluable,” Klein said.
The city planning board must still approve the project before it can proceed to the construction stage.
