Another gun, drugs taken off Newburgh streets

NEWBURGH – A foot chase following a traffic stop in the area of 87 Renwick Street in Newburgh late Friday night resulted in the arrest of a man, who was charged with possession of a weapon and drugs.
Officers from the city police Anti-Crime Unit attempted to stop a vehicle and as they approached, the driver, Jerry Jackson, 27, of Newburgh, took off on foot throwing away a black plastic back as he ran. He was caught in the area of 135 William Street while in possession of a loaded .32 caliber revolver with its serial number removed.
The plastic bag had 62 grams of marijuana in it.  He was also found in possession of 1.7 grams of cocaine.
Jackson was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon, misdemeanor criminal possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.
