PORT JERVIS – Homeowners in Port Jervis may benefit from a $380,000
state grant to rehabilitate their residences.

The renovations may include new roofing, lead remediation, structural
repairs, or heating system upgrades.

The city was awarded a similar grant from the Affordable Housing Corporation
a few months ago.

The new grant was awarded to Regional Economic Community Action Program
(RECAP), which will collaborate with the city and leverage additional
funds to bring close to $1 million in home improvements to residence of
Port Jervis who have difficulty in making ends meet.

“The City of Port Jervis and the Community Development Agency have
been working very hard to ascertain valuable dollars for housing rehab
that is very limited,” said Mayor Kelly Decker. “RECAP has
been a steady presence in Port Jervis for many years and this investment
in the city underscores its commitment to the improvement of living conditions
for our residents.”

“The vast majority of homes in Port Jervis are over 50 years old
and they are expensive to maintain,” said RECAP CEO Charles Quinn.
“This project will enable homeowners with limited and fixed incomes
to remain in their homes and will slow the increasing number of vacant
properties in Orange County’s cities.”
